After being banned by TRAI (Telecom Regulatory Authority of India), Facebook’s Free Basics is being shut down in the country, effective today.

Free Basics is no longer available to people in India.
Free Basics was launched to all of India in November, allowing citizens to access education, health, jobs, including the social network itself – Facebook.
Free Basics was aiming to connect billions of Indians to the internet, but according to the critics, the service violated Net Neutrality guidelines as it restricted most of the content available on the internet.
Thus, falling into major controversy in the country, and earlier this week TRAI announced its decision banning differential pricing in India. As a result banning services such as Free Basics.
