Delhi government launches DVATBILL app to boost tax collection

Today, the Delhi government is launching an app – DVATBILL to boost tax collection in the capital.

The app allows residents to upload photos of their payment bills and win prizes up to five times the value of purchased goods, up to the maximum amount of ₹50,000.

To become eligible for the reward scheme, the bill should not be less than ₹100 for purchases made from a registered dealer in Delhi. In order to send your entries, you need to upload a snapshot of your payment bill to the app within seven days of purchase.

The bill should include the TIN number of the dealer, as well as rate of tax charged to each item. Then the app would automatically generate a unique bill ID. The unique ID will be used during the lucky draw, which is to be held on every 15th of the month.

The award amount would be transferred automatically to the bank account of the customer upon the verification of purchases from the seller. Though, the award scheme is not applicable on purchases of motor vehicle, as well as petroleum products.

During the launch of DVATBILL app, Deputy Chief Minister, Manish Sisodia said,

Today, technology gives power to any citizen to be as powerful as MLAs, minister or bureaucrat. We are extending the opportunity through this app.

He also added,

By this app, we will catch those traders who are evading tax. I want to assure that honest traders who give tax on time don't need to fear.. we have decentralised the power from VAT officers to the entire Delhi resident.

This app developed by Department of Trade and Taxes promoting receipt collection from the seller, which is the basic right of a customer.

Similar to this app, Delhi government recently launched Swachh Delhi app, allowing residents to report any scattered garbage around the city by uploading garbage photos to the app, promoting cleanliness in the city.
