Chennai Floods: Tech companies are making efforts to speed up relief operations

As heavy rains hit Chennai, several parts of the city are flooded along with cancelled flights, train, and bus services to and from the city. As total number of deaths due to heavy rains is now 188, major tech companies are stepping-in to ensure citizens’ safety.

With BSNL deciding to offer its services for free to residents of Chennai for one week starting today, and Airtel offering free talk time with credit balance of 10 minutes (Airtel-to-Airtel) and 50MB mobile data.

On the other hand, you can easily recharge your friends’ or family members’ mobile number free of charge using Paytm service. To easily recharge a mobile number – call 180 010 300 33, and ₹30 will be automatically recharged to the designated mobile number.

In addition to that, Zomato and Practo are also helping Chennai in difficult times by announcing Meal for flood relief, where for every meal you buy on Zomato, the company will provide the same food for flood victims.

While Practo providing a compiled list of verified doctors and hospitals that people can refer to for immediate health support, which is being updated every hour according to Practo.

Also, tech giant Google has opened its crisis response tool for people to get necessary information instantly, while people using #ChennaiRainsHelp hashtag on Twitter to share and receive up-to-date information with regard to floods in the city.
