Today at its Bangalore event, OnePlus announced that the company has partnered with Foxconn to produce its smartphones in India in order to meet the demand of OnePlus in the country.
The announcement was made by CEO and founder of OnePlus, Pete Lau, and Vikas Agarwal, the company’s general manager for India.
According to Pete Lau, producing smartphones in India is one of the most important decisions made by the company. This will help the company meet fast growing demands for OnePlus in the country and strengthen its presence locally.
In addition to this event today, OnePlus held open sale (you don’t need an invite to buy the device) of its flagship smartphone OnePlus 2 on Amazon India for one hour from 12nn to 1pm.
As a result of tremendous response to the open sale today the company announced another open sale tomorrow Oct 13, 2015 for OnePlus 2 from 8am onwards on Amazon India.
OnePlus’s decision to produce smartphones in India comes after few months of Foxconn’s announcement to invest $5 billion in India. Additionally companies like Xiaomi and Motorola have made similar announcements as well to produce smartphones in India. These decisions are most definitely encouraged by Make in India initiative by the Indian government. We will be seeing more Made in India smartphones soon.
