Google introduced several new things at the Nexus 2015 event including two new Nexus phones, updates for Android Marshmallow, Google Play Music, all new Pixel C – convertible tablet or laptop, and a refreshed design and hardware for Chromecast.
Google announced 5.7–inch screen Nexus 6P which comes with 2.0 GHz 64bit Octa–core processor, which houses 3GB RAM. The Nexus 6P has a 12.3 megapixel rear camera and 8 megapixel front facing camera to take high quality selfies, the camera of the phone can shoot 4K videos.
Nexus 6P will be available in three colours – frost white, aluminium, and graphite. Also uses the new USB Type–C, and as claimed by Google it can charge twice as fast as the iPhone 6 plus.
Nexus 5X is the smaller and cheaper version which comes with a 5.2–inch screen with 1.8 GHz 64bit Hexa–core processor. Nexus 5X would also come in three colours: carbon black, quartz white, and ice blue. The other hardware of the phone is pretty much similar to the Nexus 6P.
Nexus Imprint, touch ID like fingerprint sensor is also available on both devices. Another new functionality added to the devices is the Android Sensor Hub which improves the battery life of the devices and can save up to 30 percent of the battery when on standby mode.
Additionally both devices will come with a Google Play Music 90–day free trial. Google also announced a Google Play Music family plan for up to six members for $14.99 a month.
Nexus 5X and 6P will be launched in India on October 13th. Nexus 5X will be priced at Rs. 31,999 and the 6P will be at Rs. 39,999.
Both devices will come with Android M (Marshmallow) which introduces a handful of improvements over the previous versions of the Android OS. Android M makes notifications more consistent across devices, comes with a lesser number of pre–installed apps with an additional option to uninstall apps if you still don’t want the pre–installed apps on your device.
Android M also ads app permissions, with app permissions for example you can choose which apps get to use your microphone, or camera, both separately.
Android Marshmallow will start rolling out next week.
Google launched the latest Chromecast with refreshed hardware and overall redesign of the device. Chromecast will be available in three colours as well – red, yellow, and black. The price for Chromecast is still $35.
Along with Chromecast for TV, Google also announced Chromecast Audio which can turn your speakers into music streaming device just like the TV. For Chromecast Audio, users will be able to play music from Google Play Music, Pandora, and Spotify.
Pixel C is Google’s answer to Microsoft Surface and the most recent from Apple the iPad Pro. According to Google, the C means convertible, as it can be used as a tablet or a laptop with an attached keyboard. Pixel C is pretty powerful hardware wise as it comes with a 10.2 inch screen, 2560x1800 resolution and Nvidia X1 processor with 3GB RAM.
